Defying Gravity: Conquering My Fear of Heights

Updated: Mar 5, 2024

Hello there, thrill-seekers and fellow height-fearers! Get ready to tag along on my epic quest to conquer my fear of heights. If you've ever felt those butterflies fluttering in your stomach at the mere thought of looking down from a tall building or cliff, then you'll totally relate to my journey.

I can't pinpoint exactly when my fear of heights began, but I vividly remember a time when I couldn't even bring myself to ride a Ferris wheel. If by some miracle I did agree to go, my eyes were shut tight the entire ride. That's how terrified I was!

When I finally decided to confront my fears, I knew I had to dive into experiences I'd never dared to try before. So, during a solo trip to Australia, I boldly signed up for a skydiving tour. As I geared up for the jump, I couldn't help but notice a heartwarming moment between a mother and her teenage daughter, who was treating her mom to the skydiving experience for her 60th birthday. Their bond momentarily distracted me from my nerves, until it was my turn to board the helicopter.

With trembling hands, I applied a bold swipe of lipstick in an attempt to mask my nerves. And then came the moment of truth, standing at the edge of the helicopter, ready to plunge into the unknown. I couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline unlike anything I'd experienced before. The 60 seconds free fall felt like an eternity, with screams and forced smiles masking the sheer terror I felt.

But as we transitioned into the tranquil glide of paragliding and took in the breathtaking views below, something remarkable happened. I felt an unexpected sense of strength and accomplishment wash over me. That experience was nothing short of amazing! A wild ride that left me feeling empowered and alive. So, here's to conquering fears, embracing the unknown, and finding joy in the most unexpected places.
